Has Apple finally closed the door on using the US store on an UK ATV?

I ordered an ATV2 the day they were announced. Although it is located in the UK, I have been using it with our US iTunes account for years.

All Apple TV and movie related items stopped working a few days ago. The ATV still has a working network connection. For example, Netflix still works. I'm also able to access the US store media on our iMac.

I can't find anything wrong with my setup.

Could it be an ATV2 issue rather than ATV as a whole?

Merely asking as they are obviously still selling the 3rd gen. I haven't loaded up my ATV over the last couple of days so will check it out today.

I use my US account fine on my ATV4 so I assume it hasn't changed.

I can't speak for the Apple TV 2 but I've logged into my US account on my Apple TV 4 without any problems.
