ATV2 with iTunes media server

Hi

I am thinking of getting an apple tv mainly for AirPlay as there isn't much else to use it for in the uk. My question is, can it stream from an iTunes media server?

I have a western digital NAS drive with an iTunes media server on it. Itunes on my laptop picks it up fine. Could the apple tv stream music from that? If it can I'm going to buy one straight away. I can't fit all my music on my iPad or iPhone and I object to leaving my laptop on 24/7

No unfortunately the ATV won't pick up your iTunes library from the NAS. A common complaint/ problem for many.

You need a computer to serve content to an ATV. No NAS support like there is in iTunes itself.
