it will turn it off the tv with the apple remote BUT not on.

Just replaced my older LG OLED set with a C1, and that one worked for turning the tv BOTH on and off.

Ive already rebooted the ATV. Is there anything else I can try?

apologies if a noob question

It would help to know how you set up your system.

Option 1: Is the TV the central hub in that it is connected to the sound system via the HDMI-CEC port and to all other devices (like the ATV 4K) via regular HDMI cables?

Option 2: Is the TV connected to the ATV 4K via the HDMI-CEC port?

Option 3: Is the sound system the central hub with TV and other devices connected directly to it?

These are three common ways to set up a home entertainment system, and each works a bit differently.

Over on AVS Forums, CEC has caused a lot of issues for lots of folks. So it might not be the Apple remote in and of itself. I just use a Logitech universal remote and it works well for controlling the system, even the Apple TV (except the swipe function) but it does everything the swipe function does.

Worst comes to worst, my ATV remote can power down the HomePod ATV and TV so thats good

I tried getting my Magic Remote from LG to pair with Apple TV but... up arrow worked, down arrow said already in use even though I never programmed the remote before so cancelled that haha

I think the LG CEC equivalent is on by default but struggling to find where that is in the settings / TV menus

I did find in this fussing 4k HDR is the way to go with dynamic highlights 'on', so defaults to 4K HDR for menus, switches to SDR when 1080 content, HDR when available and same with DV.

4k DV selected originally was outputting EVERYTHING in DV even SDR

Found it

Simplink wasn’t on for the input I thought it would’ve been by default. Now turns the tv on with apple remote woo

I was going to say, I've got a C1 and the ATV remote works perfectly with it. Actually I couldn't live without it as the power button on the C1 remote goes through IR and my soundbar blocks the IR receiver on the TV. So it will ONLY turn on with the ATV remote.
