My two ATV3s (both) are not picking up my home shared iTunes account on my Mac mini (2.6GHz Quad Core 2013). I think it may be as a result of the last update to iTunes in the last week, but I am not sure.

I have tried (and none worked):

  • Restoring the ATV (one of them to test) to factory;
  • Rebuilding the iTunes library on the Mac;
  • Restoring my Airport TC (2013) to factory;
  • Rebooting all devices (million times);
  • Turning off and on (many times) the home sharing on both Macs and ATVs:
  • Tried sharing an iTunes account on other Macs and the ATVs do not recognise them either;
  • Logging out of the master iCloud account on the Mac;
  • Logging out and back in to the Apple ID on the ATV; and
  • Tried WiFi on the Mac instead of ethernet

I can confirm I can choose from an iTunes video on the Mac to stream the video on the ATV and that works so there is some sort of link. And yes I definitely have a WiFi connection on the ATVs (one is ethernet and one is WiFi). Also I CAN access the home shared accounts in iTunes from the Macs so it appears home share is actually working, but only accessible to Macs.

My view:

  • I don't think it is the ATVs as I have not touched them in terms of updated or config etc.
  • I don't think it is the AirPort TC because the same problem exists wether I restore to factory etc.
  • I think it is iTunes as I have updated iTunes on all the Macs, and all the Macs (when I home share them) do not come up on the ATV.

Does anyone have any ideas that I have not covered?

I am getting to the point where I will have to do a complete OS rebuild which will involve another iTunes library rebuild.

Please help!

Thanks.

EDIT: I FINALLY fixed it. I was turning on 'Sharing' (not Home Sharing) through iTunes>Preferences>Sharing but I needed to turn on Home Sharing through iTunes>File>Home Sharing>Turn on Home Sharing instead. Looks like human error on my part. I originally wasn't actually turning on Home Sharing, I was simply 'sharing' my library. All good now.
