is there a way to hook up a HD so I can record to it & watch later? can you put the app "channels" in it? trying to cut DTV , thanks.

ATV4 is worth a look. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/135223-new-apple-tv-2015-vs-old-apple-tv-2013-what-s-the-difference

The ATV4 doesn't either. There are some DVR solutions "coming soon", but even so I don't think you'll be able to just hook up a hard drive. I guess time will tell.

What about getting a Tablo? :p

Hard to judge on future projects, but TiVo may be working on a Tablo like device:

After I got burned on a simple.tv device, I switched to an OTA roamio (which I found out can be hacked into a cablecard compatible model by transplanting a missing bracket from another TiVo.)

Silicondust also has a system in beta, it is more of a roll your own DVR.

I wouldn't know, don't have one. The reviews on Amazon are not promising. It's comical how even the four star reviews list a litany of problems (why the heck did they rate it four stars with all those problems???).

Half those Reviews are Fake! The only problem I see is people tend to get the two runner version and not the 4 tuner version or the person is an audio file and complain it's not 7.1 or something like that line!

Here is great Apple TV 4 Tablo review:
