Looking to upgrade my 15 year old Denon AVR810 to something that is more compact, has more modern features (bluetooth). The fact that its falling apart (knobs are starting to come off) is another thing motivating me to do this.

Right now Im looking at these two:
2.1 channel Marants NR1200

Im really not into or interested in the whole surround sound thing, as I don't watch a ton of movies to begin with. My current speaker setup consists of two tower speakers and a sub...

Than there is this..a 5.2 channel setup..only thinking of that as I haven't entirely ruled out a center speaker at some point.

Lastly, since my main interest is really listening to music..is there any reason not to just get an amplifier ? Im guessing that would have better audio converters? Like this one? Not that I consider myself a true audiophile or anything..chances are I'd never know the difference.

the difference is connectivity-- the only digital inputs to the pm6006 (which is the better amplifier) are spdif. No hdmi, no usb, no network, probably no bluetooth.

I see the slimline AVs have phono inputs now. (I have the Marantz NR 1603, which is a 1080p hometheater thing).

I ended up going with this:

I'm really much more of an audio guy (meaning I listen to music more than I watch movies), but I do like to watch movies. As much as I'd like a better sounding/qaulity dedicated amplifier for music, I just can't justify both and these days I want things to be easy, which means I need the ability to airplay and stream bluetooth.

Audio guys like yourself might be interested in the fact that the 1510 decodes DSD. A niche format to be sure. Also, there are pre outs for an additional amp should you want more than 50 Watts per channel. (fronts only, though)
