Is there a application for mac that will amplify audio? Not amplify the speaker but the audio/song.`
 
I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I use Audacity (free app) for most quick audio editing. Audio Hijack (recording) and Fission (editing) are another couple of good, simple Mac audio apps, but they cost about $20 each.
