I've got an issue with VLC, where a movie I ripped from a DVD will often play correctly, but sometimes, the length of the audio track will be a few minutes shorter or longer than the video track. On a full-length movie, it's generally not enough of a change for everyone to have high-pitched voices or anything, and it's usually only noticeable until the 5th or so minute.
This happens on multiple movies, seemingly at random; I find that the issue is exclusive to .avi files.
Can anyone propose a solution?

AVI's just a container format. What codec? What compression settings? Poor choice in compression settings can definitely cause what you're experiencing.
