iPod audio books on iPod

Obviously, I can download audiobooks from iTunes to my iPod, but I'm looking for some pool listening for a spring vacation. Something really easy, like a baseball or golf audiobook. Can't find one on iTunes. If I found one at say Barnes & Nobles, does that "format" of an audiobook work with iPods??

Or anything you can buy on CD at a brick & mortar B&N or Amazon can be converted over to the iPod.
