Audio CD Ejecting in IMAC

Started having trouble with the 24 in IMAC with Mountain Lion, it will not play audio cd. It will play DVD and read Operating System discs. I did a complete ML reinstall and nothing works..talked to Apple and they said maybe optical drive failure..

any suggestions?

i also had this on my old 2010 mac with snow leaopard osx. it read and burnt dvds. but would spit out every blank cd-r/rw or music cds i would put in it. very weird. i think it happened when i updated to snow leopard or when i burnt a rewriteable cd-rom. im not sure which was the culprit. but i was thinking the rewritable cd that killed the drive somehow...i even tried various brand of blank cds, from sony,verbatim,tdk, etc etc. and none worked. i concluded it was a od failure..

Buy a 30 dollar external. You'll never use the internal again.
