Audio Converter's?

Does anyone know any free or cheap audio converters for mac osx?

I have found one called switch which is free and its ok but its not universal and it doesn't convert into aac.

I know itunes can convert audio but it takes twice as long to import music to itunes then convert it and then delete the first copy i would rather just convert music before i import it into itunes.

i use a freeware app called "Switch" for audio conversion. it used to be on apple's downloads site but they took it off. just google like "switch audio converter mac" and it should come up.

why not do a simple automator workflow that will convert your songs while they are being added to the library?

get selected finder items
import audio file (aac if thats what you want although you will have to select the bitrate in itunes prefrences)

Ive found max to be the best as it is universal and can convert cd's and audio files stored on my computer.
