Audio encoder

Does anyone know of a good freeware audio encoder? I need to convert some FLAC files to either MP3 or AAC. Universal binary would be preferable as I only have 512mb RAM and PPC apps strangle my macbook.

I use Xact to convert flac to aiff, then I import the Aiff as an AAC....not sure about the UB though....
