Audio is softer

I've noticed recently that the audio on all applications is softer. I use JBL Duet Speakers, and I just got them in December. I also am using the demo version of Audio Hijack Pro, but I rarely use it ("hijack" something), and the demo isn't used up yet. Could this app make all audio softer? Or could my speakers just be used up already?
