Audio isn't mirroring to TV with HDMI chord

So I hooked up my Macbook pro retina to my TV using nothing but an HDMI chord, but how do I make audio also transfer to the tv instead of playing through my laptop speakers?

With my PC laptop the audio would only work if i made the HDMI connection while the TV and laptop were both turned off, but that doesn't seem to be working for this.

its fine all I had to do was switch the audio to out from internal.

Yes a regular hdmi chord works by itself.
