My MacBook's 'Built-in Audio' output randomly switches between 'Digital Out', 'Internal Speakers' and 'Headphones'. This happens regardless of whether the headphones are plugged in or not and it doesn't appear to be influenced by external factors.
The switches usually last for about 10 minutes - during that time, it will switch between the three outputs at an interval of about 5 seconds. Then it stops for a period of time (anywhere from 1 minute to about 5 hours) and then it starts doing it again.
Does anyone know what might be causing it?
It started after the laptop was fully disassembled and reassembled, but I don't know how that could damage the audio jack (maybe it's not the audio jack). I've read that some people had their laptops stuck on 'Digital Out' but that is not what I have. Everything else works perfectly fine (keyboard, trackpad, USB, firewire). It's a mid-2010 17" MacBook Pro.
It is not a software issue - I've already eliminated that possibility.
