Audio jacks on MacBook Pros

How is the audio jack on the 13" MacBook Pro different from the ones on the 15" and 17"? According to this picture, http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/2041...g/US/Images/macbookpro/img/gallery-big-04.jpg all three of the MacBook Pros can input and output audio, but two jacks are required for the 15" and 17" while only one is needed for the 13"? Why do they need two for the 15" and 17"?

On the larger models the Input and output jacks are separate. They are combined in the new 13.

Yes, but what I'm asking is why is this? Why are they not the same on all?

the 15 and 17 jacks are also optical i/o. I'm guessing they had to cut costs somewhere so they used this all in one, non optical jack.

Space, simplicity, cleanliness. Typical Apple.

I do audio and video podcast editing so having two jacks is needed, I assume Apple thought that the high end models needed more ports / options.
