Hi gentlemens, I've a weird issue on a MBP2010, I've exhausted all forums and google searches and tried almost everyting.

I've this issue:
1) fresh boot, audio controls works fine.
2) plug headset, audio controls works fine.
3) unplug headset, audio controls change the value displayed (same with the slider) but there's no real volume change.
3a) if I plug again the headset it works fine, the audio key are ok, but the slider don't or vice versa - so you can change the volume only with one of the two methods.

in both cases, opt-clicking the volume icon shows the right output device, but the controls are somehow dissociated.
using the controls in the system-setting/audio panels works always perfectly fine.

reproducibility: more than 10times out of 10 reboots.

annoyance: disturbing like a missing teeth in girlfriend.

what I've tried: reboots, plug/unplug many times, reset various rams, reset the spr, onyx, the old good atari cartridge blow, also with the canned air and N2, various prayers and blasphemies.
Anyone has a good idea?

-- please read before answering . nobody here wants to waste time -
Thanks

I cannot believe I'm the only one encountering this issue.. Anyone has any tought?

Based on what you've said you've already done, it seems like your only real option is to take it into an Apple store (if possible) and replicate the issue there, and see what they say about it.

When you first unplug the headphones and lose the control, do you see a red light in the headset jack? It may be that the jack thinks it is stuck outputting a digital signal and those can't be volume controlled. The reboot fixes this and then it occurs again after the headset jack is engaged and disengaged. This could mean the headset jack is malfunctioning and would require a repair (as sometimes the pins get stick and think it is outputting a digital signal. Does it output sound through the speakers after the headset jack is unplugged, as this is usually an indication that the jack is stuck in digital output mode?

there are no redlights, and the point the microswitch is not stuck. The output source is detected correctly, but the controls don't operate on it.

I've migrated all my configuration on a perfectly working imac, and is reproducing the issue. It must be software, then. Do someone have any idea of which it can be the responsible? I've too many softwares for a list... so I unleash the power of "ls"!;)
