Audio not working with HDMI Video/Audio converter to Samsung Flatscreen

I recently purchased and Mini-Display to HDMI converter, which connects to an HDMI to HDMI cable which connects to my television. The video is working fine, but for some reason audio isn't working at all. Any suggestions?

What, exact, machine do you have. Quite a lot (all pre 2010?) machines don't output audio over Mini Display Port.

I'm pretty sure it's a mid 2010. It's model identifier is MacBookPro7.1

Maybe the converter doesn't support it.

You have to set your audio output as the displayport in system preferences for it to work, assuming you have the latest MBP, the older ones do not support audio over the displayport.

This is one of the few converters that supports both audio and video. Works perfectly on my 2010 MBP.

aaahhh, i'm ashamed. Sure enough, I just had to go into System Preferences and tell it not to use the internal speakers. Thanks a lot. This is awesome.
