Audio on 4G Apple TV choppy when television off

Looked, but cannot find answer.

So I have the ATV hooked into my receiver via HDMI. I also have an Apple Music account. I go to music, pull something up to play. All is great. Turn the TV off because I don't need to have it sucking electricity if all I'm doing is playing music. But if I do that, the audio becomes choppy and stop-and-go. Turn the TV back on, and it's rock solid.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. The receiver's settings are so esoteric, I'm loathe to go in there. I guess I need to just find peace with having the screen on. Seems silly though. Sigh.

Try disabling the "Control HDMI" (or whatever it's called) on the AppleTV menu. Worth a shot...
