For some reason the audio output balance on my 2Ghz imac is randomly changing on its own. It seems to happen almost every day. And when it changes it never changes the same amount as the previous time. It doesn't matter if i'm using the internal speakers, my logitech speakers or my headphones. It's really annoying and i have no idea why it's doing it. Does anybody have any clue why its doing this?

Does it change WHEN, you switch between audio devices, or randomly while one is plugged in?

Same issue with my iBook. Always goes all the way left or right independant of what I am doing.

This has been a known issue with OSX for a long time. Apple says it happens from pressing the sound up/down keys rapidly while the computer is under load. Generally the drift is only slight, if yours is going all the way to one side I would call Apple. I have never bothered calling because the drift on my computer is minimal. If they tell you anything useful, come back and tell us.

i have a similar problem on my new 2ghz imac. the volume just seems to return to the middle of the slider every time i turn it on. since i use my hi-fi speakers it's mildly annoying, but what can you do.

Under load my ass. It happens all the time on my iBook no matter what. It was a solved bug in OS X for a few versions, but it snuck back in with Tiger. I hope they fix it when Leopard comes out.
