Audio quality issues over bluetooth to car radio

I just installed a Clarion CZ501 radio in my car and everything went just fine however, when playing audio over bluetooth I get some distortion on the upper frequencies. Additionally the sound quality overall isn't near what I would have expected for bluetooth. Right now I am using the USB cable to the radio and it sounds perfect. I have verified the firmware on my iPhone 4S, and the radio are the latest. Any suggestions?

Standard troubleshooting: test with another BT receiver to see if the issue remains. If it does then have your device looked at. If not, consider your head unit suspect.
