Audio weirdness on Lion

Hi

I upgraded to Lion about a month ago with no problems to report. In the last week however, ONLINE audio is intermittent. Youtube, embedded vid, anything with audio from an online source keeps failing.

Weirdness: to get it working again I remove the external speakers (mini jack), the sound kicks in, I replace the mini jack and the audio is back to normal. Flummoxed. Any ideas please?
