Audio will not play in VLC: mpga audio codec needed

Hello,

I have searched a lot for this question and have not found an answer.

I am trying to play a .avi video on my MAC that was originally in .rar compressed format. I opened it in VLC, and the audio wont play.. so i checked the info and saw that:

video codec: XVID
audio codec: mpga

I have perian downloaded.. it doesnt seem to be doing anyting. I dont know if i've missed something in my extracting process of the .rar file.

any help would be SOOOO great.

Have you had this problem with other videos aswell? maybe its just 1 bad file?

perian only applys to quicktime, it don't affect playback on VLC

Well, i've had problems with only files in this .rar format.. that also seem to be XVID. otherwise, i havent had this kind of problem much.

I mentioned the Perian part, because it also doesnt work in quicktime..
