I am using a MacBook Pro (13" touch, early 2017 running 10.14.6) to drive an Oppo HA2-SE DAC/Amp and headphones. The Oppo has a USB-A and USB-Micro inputs for digital audio. I bought an Audioquest 0.75m Forest USB-C to USB-A cable, however when I use this to connect to the Oppo, the MacBook does not "see" the Oppo, I.e., it doesn't show up in Audio Midi Setup or in the preferences sound app.

What's interesting is that if I attach the Oppo/Audioquest cable to the USB-C port on an iPad Pro, all is well. I can also get the MacBook to recognize the Oppo as it should with a USB-A to micro-USB cable attached to the Apple USB-C-A dongle.

Any ideas here as to what's going on? (I did reset the SMC and the PRAM)

so some further info; My wife's 2019 MBP 13 exhibits the same problem. In fact she mentioned that when she tried to use her headphones with the Apple USB- C dongle, they wouldn't work.

I'm thinking this is starting to look like a Mojave 10.14.6 problem...

You might try a different USB-C to A adapter.

I had to try several to get my Audio interfaces to play well with my MBP.

I found a different USB-A to USB-A cable--no difference, which makes me lean toward ruling out the cable itself....
