Wait a minute, Optus is charging us $50/month to enable the tethering service??? WTH?!

Apple is a liar! Optus is a ______ (you complete it)

well considering that tethering is $50 i dont think its that bad cause it gives us UNLIMITED data!!!!

that is so good!!!!

its like at&t in the states..

you could even ditch your home internet!!!

and even then when the timeless plans come out you can get rid of your home phone!!!

i like the unlimited data option!!!!!!!

and optus will be giving us visual voicemail!!!
how cool is that?!?!?!??!

=D

I currently have an iPhone 3G 16GB on the $59 cap for 12 months (now expired). If I don't get the new iPhone 3Gs I'll be paying $59 a month anyway to continue my current plan.

Sooo...if I get the new iPhone 3Gs 32GB on the $59 cap over 12 months that = $552 in handset repayments. If I manage to sell my current iPhone for ~$552 it would be basicaly be like swaping my current 3G 16GB for the 3Gs 32GB for free!

$50 is an additional fee you pay!

So if you are on $79 cap, you have to pay minimum $129 a month just to be able to use the tethering feature (which is supposed to be free)

Excellent thread. Good work. :)

Too bad AT&T doesn't offer is our choice of plan like that here in the U.S.
We only have one choice for a data plan; $30 for unlimited data. That's it. No less expensive.
That is why the senators and FCC are launching an investigation into the "exclusivity" agreement between Apple and AT&T. It's a price-fixing monopoly.

These prices are making me seriously consider upgrading.

Do you think optus will allow me to upgrade early?
I have a 3G, paid for the handset out right but am still on a 24 month contract?

**I realize you guys are not optus and may not know but you may have had experience upgrading early with another phone with optus**

The $50 is in addition to their regular iphone plan --- this is why Australians are getting the shaft.

You are going to see the 3-4 carriers that sell the iphone in Australia --- all charging for tethering as an extra, all cost more than Americans pay for their tethering. I don't know why Americans and Brits complain at all because they have the best 2 iphone deals in the first world.

Are you kidding? I would never be able to afford the iPhone on america's plans. Sure you get unlimited everything but i don't need unlimited everything and its the only option.

That's why it baffles me that people complain about the cost of the iPhone if they cant upgrade in America because compared to the overall cost over 24 months an extra $100 or so dollars is nothing.

Also you can buy other internet packs for less then $50 so maybe you can use them for tethering, just not unlimited tethering.

has anyone heard info on telstra and voda plans???

and as someone said, i am glad that we have more than one carrier, cause then we have more competitive rates.

Can't agree. AT&T blows. O2 is not that bad. I have to use both. By far the O2 deal is the best given that I pay about $75 AUS a month and I get unlimited data. No tethering however. Tethering costs a fortune.
