I set up my ipad using my home desktop computer and was able to manage it and synch it fine.
Then I was away for a month and used my laptop to continue managing the ipad through itunes.
Now that I'm back home, when I connect my ipad to my computer and try to synch, update or back up, it stops and says that it can't do anything because the ipad is not authorized on that computer.
It tells me to authorize the computer, which I do, but the computer is already authorized and it continues to refuse to manage the ipad.
If I connect to the laptop, it works fine for managing the ipad through itunes.

How can I regain control over the ipad on the desktop computer? Do I need to de-authorize the laptop first?
I thought that it was easy to manage apple devices throughout the ecosystem?
Should I only use one computer to manage the various devices?
The computers are all apple- mac pro and mac book pro, and this has happened through different operating systems- it happened when I had ios 7 and 8 and osx mt. lion, mavericks and now yosemite.
I have the same, single apple id for all purchases.

Thanks for any advice.
