Auto app updates?

Is there a way for your iPhone to automatically search for application updates without having to open up the app store and go to the updates tab? I was hoping there could be some sort of notification icon (on the app store icon) saying how many updates are available..

It usually has a little number on the bottom right of the appstore icon telling you how many updates you have.

It only does that if I open up the application. I was wondering if you could see it from the main screen.

Mine displays that randomly at times without even openning the appstore program.

mine never does it.. i kinda wish there was a push-notification for it..

It only takes a few seconds to click the appstore icon
