Auto brightness was cured on my iPhone 4S, works brilliantly.

However my ipad 2 doesn't work at all. I set the lowest comfortable brightness but if I go outside or in bright areas it doesn't raise the brightness at all.

If I turn auto brightness off it dims the screen by a tiny tiny amount, so it's not boosting it much at all.

Hi, are you using a case or anything that might block the sensor? Sometimes you have to wait a bit for the sensor to react and adjust the brightness.

Just a transparent screen protector, no mirrored finish. Same as I use on iPhone4s

Is the light sensor above the camera?

Immediately after updating to iOS6 I noticed the auto brightness seemed to work more aggressively. Also, the initial brightness was set very low, much farther towards the left end of the slider than I had it set before the upgrade.

Perhaps they adjusted the algorithm so the brightness tends to be less for improved battery life, perhaps to offset anticipated higher battery drain from new features they put into the OS.
