Auto brightness not working on iPhone 5?

I've tried adjusting my brightness settings to see the impact on battery life. I noticed that when I lower the setting, but leave the auto brightness option on, it never adjusts. I'm guessing this is an issue with the ambient light sensor. Anyone else notice this issue?

No there's no issue. it's actually more smarter in iOS 6. now it gradually increases when you go in a brighter room and decreases in a darker room.

Ahhh. So it appears that whatever you set the brightness to will be your maximum brightness on auto? Gotcha, thanks!

So at night when you're in bed, you would set the brightness to a lower level. During the day, you set it to a higher brightness. From there, auto-brightness will just adjust based on the lighting?

I believe so. Just try it out. Set it dim in dark room then go into brighter room w/ the brightness setting open and you'll see it slide.
