I always wondered this.

Is Auto Brightness on the iPhone adjustable? Can it be calibrated to go as low and as high as you like?

Or at the end of the day the levels go back to default?

I remember a couple of years ago when i bought a previous iPhone, i switched the lights off in my room and set the brightness as low to my liking and then turned the lights on, took brightness to the middle and then went out in the sun and blasted the brightness. All while Auto Brightness was enabled. Thinking this setup stays forever.

Is this the case or at the end of the day ambient sensor decides the brightness and returns to its defaults?

Thanks

My 13 Pro always sticks to 50% even after calibration. Some times auto brightness works in certain light conditions but only lowers brightness like from 80 to 60%.

if I’m in a pitch black room and set the brightness to the lowest setting, after turning on lights it won’t change. Same thing the other way around.

this is very distinct behavior than I have with my iPhone 8.

bad sensor?

If you setup your 13 Pro from a backup, it could be something in your backup that is causing the issue. A few things to try.
  1. Turn off auto brightness, restart your phone and setup auto brightness again.
  2. If #1 did not fix the issue, do a Reset All Settings, setup auto brightness again.
  3. If #2 did not fix the issue, backup your phone using iCloud or to a Mac computer. Perform an Erase All Contents and Settings. Setup your phone as new. Setup auto brightness.
  4. If auto brightness still does not work, then I would get the phone replaced.
  5. If auto brightness works in #3, do Erase All Contents and Settings again and restore your phone from the backup you made. Setup auto brightness again.
  6. If auto brightness does not work in #5, then there is something in your backup that is causing the issue.

thanks for the thorough reply
i went straight to #3 (full reset and setup as new) and still doesn’t work. ?

guess I need to replace it.
this and the shiny forced HDR crap on the cameras are a bummer. Starting to wonder if this was the right choice After my iPhone 8…
