I'm a new Apple Watch user, and one thing thats a deal breaker for me (and I do lot of research before buying but I didn't know this one) is no matter how you set the brightness, the watch screen will dim a lot in dark room and its too dark for me because I have some vision problem.

If I could always set the brightness to the max, I'd be very happy, but I completely don't understand why Apple didn't let us turn the auto-brightness off...

Is there an unknown setting I don't know that can fix this? If not, I'll consider returning my watch, sadly.

Auto is always on but you can set to Maximum in auto mode. The reason for always having auto is battery life. The max output is 1000 nits and this would quickly deplete the small battery if it displayed this amount every time.

EDIT: Forgot to add that under Accessibility Apple offers a Grayscale option for people with low vision problems.

How would setting it to the lowest setting help someone who has trouble seeing low light levels????? They should (and probably have) set it to the highest setting.
I was going by the thread title, since the OP noticed that auto brightness can't be turned off so the next best thing is to turn brightness to the lowest setting.

Auto brightness also auto dims, that is where the auto comes from. There is no auto dim feature to cut off.
