Hi all - quick question for you. Can the current iphone automatically geotag photos? Will the new iphone come with built in functionality to do it?

Thanks

The old iPhone will probably use cellular-triangulation while the iPhone 3G will use GPS which is much more accurate than triangulation.

Right, theoretically it's possible - but is there built in functionality? Like an option to "geotag photo I'm about to take" button?

Geotagging is a built in function of the new 2.0 firmware.

So it should work on the original iPhone - just won't be as accurate as the 3G with it's built in GPS.

Answer I was looking for, thanks. And do you know how the geotagging works? Is it only in conjunction with google maps? Can you export with the location data in an xml table attached to the photo?

I am not sure about geo-tagging or how it saves the location, but other Apps can ask to use your location.
