Just had someone unlock my new just out of the box iPhone "s" running Ver 3.0 and my last gen iPhone running 3.0.1

I run iTunes 8.2.1 (6) on a MacBook Pro running OS-X 10.5.8.

I do not want to sync, for the first time, the "S" , because iTunes does not seem to have a "Do not update iPhone software" check box and it seems that the update is automatic.

My question is ....

Is the download of updated software only a d/l or is it a d/l and install? If it is just a d/l, and asks if I want to install, then great, the answer will be no.

If it is d/l and install, then what do I do to prevent the install?

Is there a work around?

Your help is appreciated.

TIA
