Any real developers able to comment in this "auto layout" part of iOS 6?

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-5...that-bigger-iphone-will-launch/?tag=txt;title

Apple's iOS 6 software development kit comes with a new Auto Layout feature. And now, some are wondering whether that indicates Apple will be launching a new iPhone this year with a larger screen.
Auto Layout essentially allows developers to establish parameters for how user interface elements show up on a screen. Depending on a device's resolution, those elements will move to their correct place, based on the parameters established by the developer.

TechCrunch yesterday asked whether that feature indicates an iPhone with a larger display will launch soon. The blog said that it spoke with one developer who said that Auto Layout is a necessity before Apple can launch devices with different resolutions. The idea is that if Apple launches the long-rumored iPhone 5 with a 4-inch display, its resolution will be different than the iPhone 4S', requiring developers to have Auto Layout in place to keep a consistent experience across devices.

It exists in Lion, so its a tech that's been around for a year on the desktop - now coming to iOS. It replaces the old struts and springs. Nothing to see.

This, it's nothing really new. It helps to solve an issue which comes up especially when creating an app that can be used in portrait or landscape.

To speak to your question directly, no. We are bound by an NDA and any new APIs in iOS6 fall under that NDA. Some people seem to take their oath rather lightly however.

Sounds like you like climbing on your horse more than actually reading. Announced features are not included in the NDA, and nobody here said anything about how it works, just the problem that it solves. Hell, you don't even need to be an iOS developer to understand how this helps a problem.

This could also be for handling the fact that navigation notification banners shrink the height of apps?

Um, duh.

This is 100% exactly what has been expected.

From the very first rumor of a taller iPhone, and the very first renders of what iOS would look like, every one with the slightest development knowledge or simply casual programming awareness KNEW that Apple would be including some very simple APIs.

Very simple, to allow you to simply update your App for iOS 6, and it would automatically be formatted correctly on iPhone 4S and lower, and the new iPhone.

I wasn't referring to anyone in this thread. But in general people throw around confidential information like it's nothing. And though you can talk about the *existence* of a feature in iOS6, the specifics of the APIs are certainly under NDA until release.
