On some forum I knew that if you double post, the double post would be merged with the 1st post above automatically, thus saving moderating work. Is this possible here?

Thanks. :)

On MR, we do it the old fashioned way ... manually.

Maybe that will change someday.

In the meantime, it's not hard to do. Just click on the "Quote" icon to the right.

But why not do it automatically just in case a double post happens?
This would really save moderator work.

Nothing.
Why are you gentlemen are always so against any ideas and requests?
I think this one is a good one.

"We" aren't against ideas and requests, but I don't see the point in specifically modifying VBulletin to meet the laziness of the membership. People should be informed how to do things, not allowed to lapse in to a permanent brain-fart because they can't be arsed editing a post instead of double posting (which is no more work than posting in the first place), or a multitude of other things.

So what? You still sound like you are against everything. Sometimes ideas can change the site for the better.

I visit another website that does this as well. It's very handy.

Here's a mod for vBulletin that does it:

Good idea.

Every hack we add increases the likelihood that something will break when we try to upgrade in the future, so we try to be extremely selective about the ones we do implement.

From my perspective, this isn't a crucial enough issue to warrant a hack. So please continue to report obvious consecutive posts, and we'll merge them manually. If a user demonstrates a habit of double posting, we'll contact them personally to point them in the right direction.

We also have to consider whether there would be unwanted side effects, such as problems when a user purposely made multiple posts because of limits on post size or the number of smilies or attachments in a post.

It's not impossible to find, evaluate, approve, install, and maintain modifications to vBulletin, but we have to approach each one carefully.
