it's not anything i do often, but sometimes, i need to have my safari page refresh one window every few minutes, and i think there was an app that let you set that. does anyone know what it is if it exists?

auto refreshing pages on safari

Opera has this very conveniently built in, so I just use that for the rare times I need to auto-refresh.
There is a firefox extension to do this-it's called reload every.
It conveniently adds a drop down menu from the reload icon specifying 1 second, 5 seconds, 1 minute etc.
