Auto Splitting audio track in imovie 11

Hey all, I'm new to imovie and wondering if it is possible to automatically split a background audio track when other audio sources exist.

so say.. song plays over 10 photos - autosplit - video clip with sound - resume song as it plays over another 10 photos.

Hope that makes sense, cheers for the help on a basic question.

for future reference.. drag the song over a single clip, and split clip as necessary - as one would do with a video.
