Is there a way to get rid of the autofill feature in the URL box in Safari so it doesn't bring up lists from what you've visited in the past? It seems it still does it even after clearing the cache and history.

You could imagine such a senario if someone was typing in a URL and a not-so orthadox URL came popping up that you did not wish them to see . . .(such as hot girl using your computer)

Choose Clear History from the History menu. Then, of course, your history is cleared, which can be annoying when you're trying to remember that cool site you visited two days ago.

Another option is to use a different browser like Camino or Explorer for visiting those ... ummm ... "special" sites. You could clear history on that browser and keep your "legit" history on Safari.

Edit: Did you perhaps Bookmark the site in question? Bookmarked sites will come up even after you clear history.

oh man!, I know exactly how you feel. That can be so embaressing. thats is why evryone that uses my computer uses internet explorer which is "clean" so to speak.

To answer your question, are you sure you are deleting your history and cache correctly? Try quitting the browser once you delete the history and cache.

Re: Re: Autofill URL in Safari

Well,

I have tried quiting out of safari after clearing the cache and history, but the websites still come up as autofill when I type in a URL. Really odd how you can't do this, you would think a lot of people wouldn't want every site they had ever been to, to show up. Anyone else have any idea, I could always reset safari but that's not worth it.

Common this has to be possible!!

hmm... thats is really odd. Are you sure the sites that you go to a coming up?, because apple has some sites programmed into the URL box that will automatically show up.

Your last option might be resetting Safari. Dont worry though because it still keeps all of you bookmarks and favorites.

It's in the bookmarks

The answer is in the bookmarks.

After you erase the history, it gets rid of your history that's in the bookmarks, so they don't come up. However, if you still have them bookmarked for future review, they will continue to come up.

The solution is to delete the "suspect" bookmarks. If you drag and drop the folder containing said bookmarks to the finder, a new folder full of webloc's will appear. You can still access those sites by going into that folder where you can store them at your choice, but no eyes will gave upon those URL's when going to their favorite Mac site.
