Automatic Data Loss SD Card

I took some photos home from work to edit at home. I was working on a PC and transferred some files across to the SD Card ready to edit. However, when I put the card into my Macbook Pro it completely wipes all the photos/files from the card!

I try putting the card into my camera to see if it is just my Macbook playing up; nope, all files are gone.

Any reason for this and/or any way of getting them back quickly?

I think your best solution would be to use a different piece of media -- USB flashdrive, etc...

I was hoping to use my external HDD but I hadn't got it correctly formatted for both Mac & PC. Do you know any reason why it would simply wipe the entire card though?
