Automatic Downloads for iPhones running iOS 4.3.3

I have an iPhone 3GS, and I downloaded an app on my phone and it downloaded on my PC. When I updated an app from my PC, it didn't update on my iPhone. Do automatic downloads not work with app updates?

Automatic Downloads have been turn on for both my iTunes and my iPhone 3GS
