A parent recently accidentally deleted all of their email in Mac Mail (didn't realize they had all of the folders on the left side bar selected). This made me realize that iCloud does not have any way to recover deleted email, once you empty the trash that's it. Luckily they had backups and I recovered most of it by importing from the backed up user library/mail folder. It's really bizarre that Apple doesn't have something like a 30 day window to recover trashed mail, practically every other online file service of any kind I know of does. Recovering from the user library didn't get everything because not all of the email was actually downloaded and stored locally.
Is there some automatic way of backing up all of your email people are using? You can export a folder manually but not an ideal solution.
