Anyone know of an app that will automatically kill apps after a new one is opened based on a we number. Say I want only 5 apps running at a time and I open a new one, the now 6th app in the line on the app switcher is killed.

A crap load of apps really does a deal on my phones memory and batty. I already know of manually background killer apps.

If this doesn't exist I would totally buy it if it were made. And add exceptions!

This is a native feature of iOS 4. It kills any app after the 7th, but this can't be changed though.

If that's the case, why do I routinely close 17-20 apps running in the backround?

Where, in the task switcher bar? Those are just a list of recently used apps. In the SBSettings processes window? Those could be a combination of active and inactive. Personally, I think Apple does a "decent" job of managing apps in memory.
