Hey,

I'm new to iPhones so I have a question.

Is it possible to get for example the Facebook app or an RSS app to update their listings automatically, so you know when there are new feeds to read or new status messages to ridicule? Seems stupid if you have to open an app for it to be able to update.

This is a limitation of the iPhone.

Apps aren't allowed to run in the background - except in a few limited circumstances.

Apps can use the "Apple Push Notification" service to alert you to certain things, but that isn't really what you are looking for.

facebook could easily show a badge for unread wall posts and news feed items, but they choose not to. I think its a good choice, as in the last half hour, I've had 99 new items posted to the news feed...those badges would get ridiculously high very fast

I don't see how they could do that. They would only be able to update the badge when you were in the App - that would be useless.
