Automatic Safe Boot

Hi,

I have turned my mac on this morning (power mac g5 running os x 10.5) and my startup took forever, then the fans started up really loud, and now it seems it is booting straight into a safe boot login window which will not except my password?

I have tried searching this to try and solve the problem but can't find muc information about it. So any help would be very much appreciated.
