I have always kept the Auto Update option turned off on my devices.
My wife showed me a screen on her iPhone yesterday which was the standard acceptance page for new software. I thought that was weird and we cancelled it. I went into the Software Update setting and sure enough, all the options were turned on. I know she didn’t mess with them and I know I never tuned them on.
Just now I got the screen on my iPad about “Updating Tonight”. I went into the settings and all the Auto options were turned on.
Seriously Apple? Turning on an update option without telling a user? Put out a ****** update, get reports that upgrading is behind expectations and decide to do something about it? Pretty creepy, sneaky, and IMO, unethical.
Has anyone else seen this happening?
Kind of makes me wonder what else might be changed.

I had a similar situation too, no matter where you tapped on the screen, you’d always get a notification saying there’s an update. It felt almost like spam, whatever you pressed. Probably a marketing tactic. And just like in your case, automatic updates were turned off. They don’t really mean much if you don’t update your phone for a long time.
