I'm leaving to take my students to band camp tomorrow evening, and rather than taking a laptop this year, I'd like to take the combination of an iPad and my Mac Mini, giving me the ultimate portable device on the field, the full power of my desktop in the staff cabin, and hopefully without the need to bring a monitor.

While I was able to get an "Mac MiniPad" set up going with this solution, it doesn't allow the Mac Mini (running 10.8, btw) to have wireless Internet access. (the staff cabin is within range of the camp's Wi-Fi.) I can turn the Mini on and see the screen on my iPad, but I can't connect to Wi-Fi Internet without turning off the ad-hoc network, but if I turn off the ad-hoc network, I can't see the screen to then connect it to an Internet-connected network.

(By the way, while I've taken my MBP to this camp for the previous 4 years, this Mac Mini has never been there, so it wouldn't normally recognize the open network.)

So with the ad-hoc network idea out the window, is there a way or a script to have the Mac Mini connect to the strongest open network upon startup? Auto-login will be on, so that's not an issue, and I know the network I'll be connecting to down there is the only open network within range.

My only backup plan is to use the ad-hoc network, then use my iPad to disable the ad-hoc network, then use my Bluetooth mouse to blindly try and connect to the camp Wi-Fi... but if there are multiple networks, or if I'm slightly off in bringing the cursor straight up, I'm screwed...
