Automatically get read/write permissions for file saved from Windows

When my wife saves a file on Windows 7 onto my Mac 10.8, I need to manually add myself under 'Sharing and Permissions' on the file. I need to do this to edit and open the file. This happens even when I create the file, she edits on Windows7 and saves it back to my Mac. I'm locked out of the file at that point.

Is there a way that after the file is saved to my computer, I immediately have access to it?
