I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty lazy with my downloads on Safari. I usually just click the 'Save to "Downloads"' and just let my Downloads folder grow bigger and bigger. Organizing by hand is a pain.

So I'm looking for a way to automatically sort my downloads. Whether it's right away when I download something, or a script/action I have to run periodically. Suggestions?

How are you trying to organize them? By site? By type? By filesize? You can use smartfolders to organize them type, but there's also Hazel that could do some good stuff for you. It just all depends on how you want to organize them.

Well, I want to do it more by file types. So like my downloads folder goes like this:

Downloads>
>Pictures
>Movies
>Music
>ZIP
etc.
----------

Hazel is looking really good so far! Thanks!

Yeah, you can totally do that with Smart Folders. If you navigate to the Downloads folder and hit Cmd+f and bring up searches to set up smart folders from there. It's kind of cumbersome to start out, but it does the trick. Hazel was overkill for me, but if it works for you, great!
