Is there is an option to automatically subscribe to threads that you post in?

I could not find a setting in the User CP.

Default Thread Subscription Mode is what you are looking for. Change the dropdown to another value.

In the User CP, click Edit Options, then under Messaging & Notification choose a Default Thread Subscription Mode
