I've been trying to write an action that will connect to a PC network drive (smb://) and open a file from it.

I can't get it running!

I'm not going to pretend that I know Automator all that well but I know a bit here and there and have made a few handy time saving apps though.. this one is doing my head in though!

Basically, it would need to connect to the drive, preferably put in the username but NOT the password (although this step is not essential) and then open the correct file on the drive.

It's the only single file that a Mac user in my office will ever need to view on the PC servers and this would make the whole thing seamlessly easy if I could get it running.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ben

What you need to do is create a shortcut to the network drive somewhere on your Mac, then tell Automator to open the shortcut. Unfortunately, Automator doesn't handle the username/password authentication - that you have to type in yourself (or save it in your keychain).

Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated.

I worked it out in Applescript instead though.. FAR easier!

Thanks,
